    In 1953 several new types of nuclear weapons were build and tested. Although at this point there were relatively few nuclear weapons compared to the later cold war.
  • Vietnam war

    The Vietnam war broke out between south and north Vietnam. However, it was very different from the Korean war that proceeded it.As it was mainly a guerrilla war fought in the south. With the us making no attempts to invite north Vietnam.As doing so would have likely led to a war with China.
  • 1956 Hungary revolution

    A revolution in Hungary was brutally suppressed with thousands of people being killed.The us considered having the cia provide support to the rebels.But the election was crush to quickly for any significant aide to arrive.
  • Launching of sputnik

    The soviet union launched the first man-made satellite into space.The launching was met with fear and awe in the united state and Britain. Though the united sates government tryd to play it coll by saying that the situation was under control and refusing to comment.

    Jfk main foreign policy goal was the prevention of the spread out communist.The Vietnam war continued under his watch.And he tried and failed to overthrow castro.

    A spy plane was shot down over the soviet union. With its pilot being captured alive. Face with irrefutable proof the us was forced to acknowledge the fact that the us that the us was spying on the soviet union. Leading to further deterioration in relations between the us and the soviet union.

    Was onece again nerlly broke out.As american and soviet tanks face off against each other.Though once again Kennedy and Khrushchev where able to agree to a resolution
  • Bay of pigs

    In 1961 the us attempted to arm Cuban rebles with the goal of invading and overthrowing the communist Cuban government. However, it ended in failure. This led to Castro believing he needed nuclear weapons to secure the revol ution.
  • Cuban missile crisis

    After it came to light that the soviet union had station nuclear weapons in Cuba that were within striking distance of mainland united states. This led to the us blockading Cuba in a situation that nearly escalated into nuclear war.However the situation eveaully deesclate.
  • Six day war

    War broke out between isreal and the arab natation that surrounded it. The was ended very quickly before either the us or the soviet could get involved to support either side.But it did lead to an increase in anti-Semitism around the globe with many of the remaining jews of eastern Europe fleeing as a result.
  • Nixion election

    Nixion elcetion changed a great deal during the cold war.He began the process of ending the American involvement in the cold war.And he also sought to normalize relation with china.Despite this he was an avid anti-communist who believed us should be the only power in the western hemisphere.He supported the bay of pig against cuba.And he also supported the overthrowing of leftist government in Latin America. Replacing them with millatery dicatirships.Such as in chile.
  • Space race

    The space race began with the launcing of the sputnik.Which led to a renewed interest in space. And also wide-scale paranoia over the potential use of nuclear weapons using satellites. Both the soviet union and us had several achievements during it. But it generally agreed to have mostly ended in 1872. As of that year, the soviet union and America launch a joint space flight.

    In 1968 us began to shift the responsibility of fighting the Vietnam war to the Vietnam government.And it eventually led to the pairs of a peace accord between both sides.Though the trety was broken and the south proves unable to fight of the north by itself.
