    John Hunter
    Feb. 13, 1728-Oct. 16, 1793. He is from Scotland. He wrote The Natural History of the Human Teeth (1771), A Treatise on the Venereal Disease (1786), and Observations on Certain Parts of the Animal Oeconomy (1786) and A Treatise on the Blood, Inflammation, and Gun-shot Wounds (1794).

  • Humphry Davy

    Dec. 17, 1778-May 29, 1829. He is from England. He found many elements and invented the miner’s safety lamp. He was a pioneer in the new field of electrochemistry.

    May 12, 1820-August 13, 1910. She is from Italy. She is foundational philosopher of modern nursing, statistician, and social reformer. International Nurses Day is on her birthday.
  • Louis Pasteur

    Louis Pasteur
    December 27, 1822-September 28, 1895. He is from France. He pioneered the study of molecular asymmetry; discovered that microorganisms cause fermentation and disease; originated the process of pasteurization; saved the beer, wine, and silk industries in France; and developed vaccines against anthrax and rabies. In 1879, he made his first big discoverer in the study of vaccinations.

    Joseph Lister
    April 5, 1827-Feb. 10, 1912. He is from England. He founded the antiseptic medicine and a pioneer in preventive medicine. In 1867 he published his work on using antiseptics and between 1865-1869 surgery death rate dropped from 45% to 15%.

    Dec. 11, 1843-May 27, 1910. He was from Hannover(now Germany).He is one of the founders of bacteriology. He discovered the anthrax disease cycle (1876) and the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis (1882) and cholera (1883)
  • Wilhelm Roentgen

    Wilhelm Roentgen
    March 27, 1845-February 10, 1923. He was from Prussia(now Germany). In 1895, he discovered the x-ray.
