  • Immunizations

    Immunizations
In 1796, Edward Jenner invented immunizations. Immunizations contain weakened parts of a germ that cause certain disease. It works by making antibodies to recognize and prepare to fight off illness. Vaccinations have changed the world drastically by completely wiping out deadly diseases around the United States and entire globe. Without vaccinations measles, polio, smallpox, etc. would be affecting millions of lives.
  • Immunotherapy for Cancer Treatment

    Immunotherapy for Cancer Treatment
George Dock invented immunotherapy in 1904 at the University of Michigan. Immunotherapy is a cancer treatment that boosts the body’s natural defenses to fight cancer. It uses substances made by the body to improve immune system function and works by slowing down growth of cancer cells and helping the immune system destroy cancer cells. Different types of immunotherapy are t-cell therapy and cancer vaccines. It has treated many cancer patients and will continuing developing.
  • HIV Cocktail

    HIV Cocktail
In the 1960’s, Jerome P. Horwitz created a combination drug treatment called AZT in hope it’ll cure cancer. It failed, but 20 years later in 1987, Horwitz was messing in his Detroit laboratory and found it was found to cure HIV/AIDS, AZT decreases the amount of HIV in the body. It helps people with HIV/AIDS deal with this disease essier.
  • Artificial Heart

    Artificial Heart
Paul Winchell invented the artificial heart on February 6, 1961. There is a pump carried externally in a backpack. It works when the tubes connecting the heart to the pump send pulses of air into sacs in the artificial ventricle forcing blood out as a biological heart would. This invention lowers the need for heart transplants and gives patients waiting on a donor list another option.
  • Gene Editing

    Gene Editing
Martin Cline was the first to test modifying a human’s DNA which is also gene editing in 1980. Gene editing allows you to make specific changes in DNA and allows genetic material to be added, removed or altered at a certain spot in the genome. The enzyme cuts the DNA at a specific sequence and when it is repaired an edit is made to the sequence. This powerful tool is meant to be used to prevent and treat diseases in the human body.
  • robotic surgery

    robotic surgery
In 1985, the da Vinci surgical system created the PUMA 560 robotic surgical arm. Robotic surgery is a minimal invasive surgery. Instead of making large incisions, quarter-inch incisions are made and miniaturized surgical equipment and a camera that has a better 3D view inside the body is used. The surgeon controls the movement by the robot mimicking his moves. It results in less trauma in the body, minimal scarring and faster recovery. It's used when you have a complex or impossible surgery.
  • Hepatitis C Cure

    Hepatitis C Cure
In 1987, Chiron association invented the cure for Hepatitis C. It decreased mortality rate of those who have been tested and shown symptoms.
  • Nano Medicine

    Nano Medicine
Richmond Feynman spoke about his idea of nano medicine in his Caltech “There’s Plenty of Room at the Bottom.” nano medicine prevents and treats diseases in the human body. Chemotherapy, nebulizers, insulin pumps, hearing aids and pacemakers are all forms of nano medicine. This medicine gives drugs the ability to stay in the body longer.
  • Bionic Prosthetics

    Bionic Prosthetics
In 1993, David Gow led his 5 team members in inventing the worlds first bionic prosthetic arm – the Edinburgh Modular Arm System. This arm looks and moves just like the other. It is sheathed in artificial skin and rotates fully at the shoulder, turns at the wrist and bend at the elbow, and his fingers allow him to grip. Prosthetics allow people with missing limbs to have a normal and independent lifestyle.
  • Health Tracker Apps

    Health Tracker Apps
The different health tracker apps all have different creators. These apps track one’s overall health and let the user track their fitness. It saves people by warning them when something is wrong before anything bad happens.
