He wa born into a very strict family that was Catholic. They intended for him to have a career in law but he became a monk and a theology professor instead of a lawer.

While traveling back to the university from his parents' home, Luther was caught in a really bad thunderstorm. Almost hit by some lightening, he cried to patron saint of miners: "Help me, St. Anne, and I'll become a monk!" Luther escaped unharmed, and being true to his word, entered a monastery within a month.

Martin Luther nails the 95 theses to the castle church door. He wrote these theses because he thought that paying for indulgences so that they didn't have to repent of their sins was wrong. Out of his frustration he wrote all 95 of them.

Martin Luther burns the Exsurge Domine. He also burnt other papal documents, books of the church law and books written by his enemies under what is now known as the Luther oak.
