    He moved to Hannibal when he was four years old. He swam in the Missouri River, exploring a cave that was only about two miles away from his house, and working as a typewriter for the local paper to help support his family.

    Sam’s older brother Orion moves back to Hannibal and buys the Western Union Newspaper. Dan starts to work for his brother and eventually joins the Cadents of Temperance.

    Sam moved to St. Louis, New York, and Philadelphia to become a journeyman printer. Sam’s mother and other siblings moved to Iowa making it so that no more of the Clemens family lived in Hannibal.

    Sam became an assistant at a printing shop in Cincinnati, Ohio.

    In 1857 he was the pilot directly under Captain Horace Bixby on the Paul Jones. This struck his interest in becoming a pilot. By 1859 he got fully licensed and piloted on many steamboats.

    Twain moved to San Francisco to work for the Call Newspaper.

    Twain got contracted for his first book, The Innocents Abroad which got published in 1869.
  • His Own Family

    His Own Family

    He got married in February to Olivia Langdon Elmira and had a son, but sadly he died around the age of two. He eventually had two daughters a few years later.
