    The Germans open World War Two by attacking Poland. Britain and France declare war on Germany in turn, but take little action. Germany bulldozes through Denmark, Norway, Belgium, and the Netherlands over the following months; no country puts up a considerable fight.

    The Battle of Britain
    Germany's Luftwaffe attacks Britain repeatedly. Their attempts to eliminate Britain from the war are doomed to failure, the very first for the Germans. As a result, Hitler must reevaluate his invasion plans for Britain.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Attack on Pearl Harbor
    The naval base at Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii, was attacked by the Japanese. The attack began at 7:48 A.M., and was a resounding defeat for the Americans. This battle opened the Pacific front of the war, and dragged the Americans into the conflict.

    Battle of Midway
    After Pearl Harbor, Japan continued to dominate the Pacific. However, the Americans were able to turn the tide at Midway. The Japanese had planned to lure the American aircraft carriers into a trap, but their assumptions led to defeat. This turned the tide of the Pacific front.

    Stalingrad
    The Germans betray their contractual ally, the U.S.S.R., and carve through their territory. While the German 6th Army were able to capture and control the city of Stalingrad, they were surrounded and poorly supplied. In five months time, the 6th Army was utterly decimated, and Hitler's dream of European conquest was broken.

    Allies Invade Italy
    The Allies success in Africa allows them to commence an invasion of Italy. After capturing Sicily, they proceeded up Italy. Benito Mussolini was able to escape, but was no longer a significant threat. This marked Italy as the first Axis power to collapse.

    D-Day
    Allied forces opened a second front for Hitler to deal with. The landings composed of 160,000 troops spread over five beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword. While the Germans had secure defenses, their attention was drawn elsewhere by Allied misinformation. The beaches fell, dooming the Germans.

    Hitler's Suicide
    Hitler commits suicide alongside his mistress in order to avoid capture. His death makes the end of the Nazi Party an absolute certainty, if the successful invasion of Germany had not already.
  • The War Ends on an Official Level

    The War Ends on an Official Level
    The Potsdam Conference is held, discussing terms upon which the war would end. While Japan still refused to accept the terms of surrender, Germany was eliminated as a threat. The war was over on most levels, with only minor fighting in Japan and cleanup left.
  • Japan Surrenders

    Japan Surrenders
    Frustrated with Japan's resilience, Truman orders for the recently developed atomic bomb (Little Boy) to be dropped on Hiroshima. Despite the city's destruction, Japan refuses to surrender. A second, more powerful bomb (Fat Man) is dropped on Nagasaki, finally forcing Japan to cede. Over 200,000 thousand people were killed over the three days.
