    This battle led to the collapse of the French Army. Importance: It showed certain tactics that are necessary in modern warfare.

    It was a military campaign in WWII
    Britain ended up winning.

    The Royal Air Force fought against Nazi Germany's air force.
    Germany was told not to have an air force in the Treaty of Versailles. Importance: It was the first battle to be fought entirely by air forces.This also marked the first defeat of Hitler's military forces.

    The Soviet Union won.
    Also known as the 900 Day Siege
    Germany invaded the USSR, and tried to kill Lenin but failed.
    One of the longest and most destructive sieges in history. Importance: The Germans maintained themselves with 1 army Soviet forces who numbered less than 15 percent of their total strength on the German-Soviet front.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Battle of Stalingrad
    Dates: 23 August 1942 – 2 February 1943
    The Soviets won by destroying Germany's 6th Army.

    The turning point of the war to be in favor of the Allies.
    The Soviets had to send anyone strong enough to hold a gun.
    Some women ended up fighting for the Soviet Union too. Importance: Germany's first major loss happened so they stopped advancing farther into Europe and cut down most invasions.
  • Operation Torch

    Dates: Nov 8, 1942 – Nov 10, 1942
    It was the Anglo-American invasion of French North Africa in WW2.
    The first major airborne assault carried out by the USA.
    Landed on 3 different beaches to attack from all sides.

    Helped to free Southern France from German Rule. Importance: The first time that America and Britain had worked together on a joint invasion plan.
  • D - Day

    Date: June 6, 1944
    Also known as Normandy landings.
    The Allies invaded northern France by beach landings in Normandy.
    The Allies took yet another victory home.

    The Allies wanted to have a full moon for the attack to take place. Importance: It resulted in the freedom of France. It was also the largest sea based military operation to take place in history.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Dates: Dec 16, 1944 – Jan 25, 1945
    The last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front.
    Attempt by Germany to push the Allies to Northwestern Belgium.
    The 3rd most lethal battle in USA History (19,276 killed).
    The attack by the Germans caused a 'bulge' in the Allies. Importance: It was planned by the Germans but backfired. They were wanting to split the Allies into 2 parts so that it would be easier to attack.
  • Battle of Berlin

    Dates: Apr 16, 1945 – May 2, 1945
    The Soviets won this battle.
    Also known as the Fall of Berlin.
    Was the final major offensive.
    Result was the surrender of German army & death of Adolf Hitler. Importance: All of Hitler's hard work and all of his campaigns came to an end when he committed suicide so that he wouldn't get caught.
