    First Battle of the Marne
    The Germans wanted this battle to occur because they thought it would be an easy way to defeat France quickly and then have the ability to focus on defeating the east. Unfortunately, Germany's plan did not go as they had hoped and they lost this battle to France. They suffered many losses during the battle and it definitely took a toll on their hopes for winning the war.

    First Battle of Ypres
    The First Battle of Ypres began when German forces attacked south of Ypres. Many different areas of the coast were being attacked and the British and French could not hold on. They were constantly being pushed farther and father back by the Germans. The Bristish, French, and even the Germans suffered many losses during this battle.

    Battle of Verdun
    The Battle of Verdun was one of the longest and bloodiest battles of WWI. Germany launched the attack on Verdun, Paris and it did not start off very well for them. Eventually, they got their act together and were able to pull off a victory that greatly advanced them in the war.

    Battle of the Somme
    The Battle of Somme took place in France and it was planned in a British offensive. They wanted to take some of the pressure off the French line and possibly defeat Germany. France and Britian were successful and they did end up beating the Germans in this battle.
  • Battle of Caporetto

    Battle of Caporetto
    The Battle of Caporetta began when Germany attacked the Italians. Italy was not ready for the attack and they suffered greatly. They lost over 300,000 men and over 270,000 were captured. All of their guns were basicaly lost and they ended up withdrawing from the battle.
