    Born on September 9th, 1911 in Cornwall, England. His mom, named Mildred, was an activist who fought for women’s right to vote. His dad Alex, worked as a principal.

    He attended his fathers school for primary. Went to Brasenose Collage in Oxford for a degree in English. His father wanted him to study sciences but he chose to become a teacher/writer.
