Leon takes out a $400 loan and travels up to Boston. While in Boston, he gives the American Rubber Company his $400 and asked them to make a better boot for him.

Bean begins to sell a lot of boots which gave him enough money to start his own shop.

Bean realized that he it is very important to patent his inventions. So, he did and created LLBean, the very successful corporation that everyone knows today.

Leon Leonwood Bean died in Pompano Beach, Florida at the age of 94.
