    Ole Kirk Christiansen was born in 1891 in Denmark
  • New Carpenters Shop

    In 1916 Ole Kirk was 25 years old. He bought a carpenter's shop in the farming town of Billund, Denmark. This was not far from the village that he was born in. Families hired Ole Kirk to build houses, dairies for the castle and even churches.
  • Fire!

    in 1924,two of Ole Kirk's sons set fire to his workshop by mistake. the entire place was burned to the ground. Ole kirk re-built his workshop later on.

    In 1932, Ole Kirk's wife died. He had four sons he had to raise on his own. At the same time, he started to think about making toys and he got a loan from the bank.
  • The LEGO Company

    In 1934 Ole Kirk re-named his company. He chose two words "play" (leg) and "well" (godt) and stuck them together.

    In 1947, Ole Kirk started making plastic toys instead of wooden toys. His favourites were a baby rattle shaped like a fish and a teddy bear souring through the sky in a airplane.

  • Godfred Takes Over

    In 1951, Ole Kirk's son took over the Lego Company. He was 30 years old.
  • Ole Kirk Dies

    Ole Kirk Dies
    On March 11, 1958, Ole Kirk died. He was 67 years old. The year before the Lego Company celebrated its 25th birthday. In that same year, the Lego bricks were the only toys that the Lego company sold.
