Both Laura and Almanzo were struck with diphtheria, and while Laura recovered, Almanzo relapsed, which brought on a stroke that left him crippled and cane bearing for life.

After just a few days of life, their baby boy dies. They then loose the house to a fire.

The Wilders move to Minnesota and to Florida in search of help with Almanzo's crippled health.

After years of moving around, the Wilders settle in Mansfield, Missouri. Laura dubbed the farm "Rocky Ridge Farm" , and this is where she writes the Little House Series from.

Throughout these years, Laura writes-alot. She writes quite a bit, including being a columnist, writing for magazine articles, and writing the Little House series.She also wins 5 ALA Newberry Honor Awards and a Laura Ingalls Wilder Award.

Laura died in her sleep at home from heart faliure. She had just celebrated her 90th birthday 3 days earlier.
