Joseph Kony was born in the town of Odek, on the outskirts on the town Gulu, Uganda. He was the youngest of 6 children. He was born into the Acholi people, and into the Christian faith. -
Changes
Kony was an altar boy for several years, but stopped attending at this time,He also dropped out of school and was apprentised to be a witch doctor under his brother. When his brother died, he took over. -
The LRA was born
Kony claimed to be a spokesperson of god and a spirit medium. He recruted followers and made a goal to overthrow the Ugandan goverment. He planned to form a new goverment with Christian Fundementals. (the 10 commandments) -
Coming to Prominence
Joseoh Kony was the leader of a premillennialist group who was trying to overthrow the Acholi Presedent. He recruted a group of former Uganda National Liberation Front soldiers and threw his first raid on the city of Gulu shortly after. -
IDP Camps
The Ugandan government, unable to stop the LRA, required the people of northern Uganda to leave their villages and enter government-run camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs). These camps were supposedly created for the safety of the people, but the camps were full of disease and violence. 1.7 million people lived in these camps across the region. -
The Invisable Children
Uganda signs an agreement with Sudan in an effort to contain the LRA rebel group, The LRA want to run Uganda on the basis of ten Commandments, to be enforced by 'prophet' Joseph Kony. He tries to achieve this by kidnapping thousands of the children to become fighters or sex slaves. -
Arrest Warrants
The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Joseph Kony and four of his top commanders. Of those, only Kony, Ongwen, and Odhiambo remain at large -
Peace Talks
The LRA indicated an interest in peace negotiations. The talks took place over the course of two years. Joseph Kony sent a delegation on his behalf, but when the Final Peace Agreement was ready to be signed, Joseph Kony failed to show up—five times. -
