    Armour in the early 1100's
    Armour in the early 1100's consisted of a cone shaped helmet with a protective nose strip. Long chain mail suit which covered the arms to the knee, and was made of thousands of little metal hoops (also known as a hauberk).

    Armour in the late 1100's
    Armour worn in the late 1100's was improved by including a rounder helmet with a larger nose strip, loose fitting surcoat, which was worn over the chain mail to deflect heat form the sun and bore the coat of arms from which the knight was from. The hauberk is now attached to the helmet and includes mittens to protect the hands. Chain mail now covers the intire legs and the sheild is smaller.

    Armour in the 1300's
    Bascinet helmets worn by late 1300's, and the visor can be lifted up. Hammered iron plates were added for protection, and the weight of the armour is now so great, that the knight cannot get up of the ground by himself. The sheild is smaller and curved for added protection, and gloves made of iron are worn to protect the hands. The hauberk is even shorter and padded socks with iron braces are worn.

    Armour in the 1400's
    The whole suit of armour now weighs 25 kilograms. Lighter helmets called barbutes are worn. Plate armour (made of iron plates) now completely the whole body. There is no longer any need for using a sheild and the armour icludes iron shoes.
