    Manhattan Project (Atomic Bomb)
    Before the beginning of World War II, Albert Einstein wrote to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Einstein and several other scientists told Roosevelt of efforts in Nazi Germany to purify uranium-235, which could be used to build an atomic bomb. Manhattan Project was committed to expediting research that would produce a viable atomic bomb. From 1939 to 1945, more than $2 billion was spent during the history of the Manhattan Project. At 5:29:45 on July 16, 1945, the A-bomb was launched.

    Pearl Harbor attacked by Japan

    On December 7, of 1941 Japan launched a surprise attack against the United States naval base in Hawaii. All U.S. Navy ships were destroyed. 188 U.S. Aircraft was destroyed, 2402 Americans were killed.

    Was fought in the waters southwest of the Solomon Islands and eastward from New Guinea. The Battle of Coral Sea was fought entirely by planes – no ship on either side made any visual contact with any enemy ship.
  • Battle of Midway

    Fought near the Central Pacific Island of Midway. Japanese had planned to capture Midway to use as an advance base, as well as to entrap and destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet. U.S. Pacific Fleet surprised the Japanese fleets. After Midway, the Americans and their Allies took the offensive in the Pacific.

    There was two battles. They both occured in Egypt. 1st battle: July 1-27 and the second battle was from October 23 to the th of Novemebr. The fist fight was between the Axis forces commanded by Field Marchal. Battle was Stalemate, but a second advance by the Axis forces into Egypt. ThenSecond Battle of El Alamein would be required to drive the Axis armies out of Egypt for good.

    The US Marines landed on August 7th. Their landing was unopposed but it took the Americans six months to defeat the Japanese.The Americans were able to launch a surprise attack.

    It was the code name for the Battle of Normandy. The operation that launched the invasion of German-occupied western Europe during World War II by Allied forces. A 12,000-plane airborne assault preceded an amphibious assault involving almost 7,000 vessels. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on 6 June; more than three million troops were in France by the end of August.

    Sometimes called the Crimea Conference and codenamed the Argonaut Conference. was the World War II meeting of the heads of government of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union, represented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and General Secretary Joseph Stalin. Meeting was for the purpose of discussing Europe's post-war reorganization. The conference happened in the Livadia Palace near Yalta, in the Crimea.

    Battle of Iwo Jima
    Also known as Operation Detachment. United States Armed Forces fought for and captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Empire. Iwo Jima was defended by 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops, and it was attacked by three marine divisions after preparatory air and naval bombardment (sixty-eight hundred tons of bombs, twenty-two thousand shells). American losses included 5,900 dead and 17,400 wounded.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Battle of Okinawa
    Codenamed Operation Iceberg. Was fought on the Ryukyu Islands of Okinawa and was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific War of World War II. The Okinawa campaign involved 287000 U.S. Army troops against 130000 Japanese soldiers. The battle lasted 82 days, all the way to mid-June. After island-hopping the Allies were approaching Japan. The invasion was supported by naval, amphibious, and tactical air forces.
