John Polkinghorne achieved his first degree in 1952 at Trinity College. Followed by a Masters degree in 1955, and finally his first Doctorate in Quantum Field Theory in 1956.

Polkinghorne's most important work towards Quantum Field Theory is likely his 1966 publishing, The Analytical S-Matrix. This text is commonly referred to and pursued even to the present day.

Polkinghorne received another Doctorate in Elemental Particle Physics from Trinity College. He created mathematical models to calculate the paths of quantum particles. His work garnered him a spot as a Fellow of the Royal Society.

Polkinghorne resigned from his post at Cambridge to begin work in Theology. Being assigned a parish in South Bristol in 1982 and becoming a Vicar of a parish in Blean two years later.

Polkinghorne published his first book in 1983, titled 'The Way the World Is'. One of his several works on the relationship between science and religion.
