    The Invasion of china was a major war fought between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan before and during World War II. Japan's invasion of China was due essentially to Japan's desire to be an imperial power. There was both an economic and a militaristic element to this desire.The economy deteriorated, sapped by the military demands of a long, costly war and internal strife, by spiraling inflation, and by Nationalist profiteering, speculation, and hoarding.

    Ribbentrop and Stalin signed a non-agression pact called the Molotov-Ribbentrop treaty, with this treaty it signed that if Russia would help out Germany in ivading poland they would get control over Latvia,Estonia,and Finland, while Germany would control Lithuania and Danzig,thus starting the boardering of germany. With expanding germany, all non-german inhabitants where moved east, over 77,000 miles of Polish land with a popluation of 13 million would eventualy become Russian territory.-Miguel

    Germany's Invasion of Poland
    At 4:45 a.m., some 1.5 million German troops invade Poland all along its 1,750-mile border with German-controlled territory. Simultaneously, the German Luftwaffe bombed Polish airfields, and German warships and U-boats attacked Polish naval forces in the Baltic Sea. Nazi leader Adolf Hitler claimed the massive invasion was a defensive action, but Britain and France were not convinced. On September 3, they declared war on Germany, initiating World War II.

    Blitzkreig was a tactic the Germans used during the first phase of WW1 to try and avoid a long war. This tactic require concentration of offensive weapons. They used tanks. planes, and artillery to drive a breach in enemy defenses. They successfully first used this tactic against Poland in September 1939. They continued to use this tactic against many others, such as; Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium Luxembourg, France, Yugoslavia, and also Greece up until April 1941.

    Operation Barbarossa
    Nazi Germany and its Axis allies began a massive invasion of the Soviet Union named Operation Barbarossa. About 4.5 million troops launched a surprise attack deployed from German-controlled Poland, Finland, and Romania. Hitler had long had his eye on Soviet resources. Although Germany had signed a non-aggression pact with the USSR in 1939, both sides remained suspicious of one another, and the agreement merely gave them more time to prepare for a probable war.

    Pearl Harbor
    Hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American vessels. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise, but Japan and the United States had been edging towards war for decades. More than two years after the start of the conflict, the U.S had entered WWII.

    Wannsee Conference
    Reinhard Heydrich, Himmler's second in command of the SS, convened the Wannsee Conference in Berlin with 15 top Nazi bureaucrats to coordinate the Final Solution in which the Nazis would attempt to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe, an estimated 11 million persons.

    Bataan Death March
    After the Japanese had conquered over the Bataan Penninsula of Luzon, they forced approximately 75,000 Filipino and Americam troops to walk 65 painful miles to prison camps. Thousands died walking there and along with those who arrived at the prison camp. This march happened because the Japanese wanted to torture the troops for the violence against them. Recently after this, America avenged their defeat in the Philippines during the inavasion of Lyte (1944). -Melanie

    Warsaw Ghetto uprising
    In 1942, the German authorities had deported and or murdered around 300,000 jews in the warsaw ghetto. Soon after, the germans had made an organization called the ZOB. They also made another defense group called the ZZW. They came together to deport and murder jews. Their plan was to kill almost all jews with the warsaw ghetto in 3 days (it went on for around a month). This uprising happened because it was apart of an extermination plan.     The attack on Hamburg was called ‘Operation Gomorrah’. It was a joint British-American venture. Many of the attacks on Germany up to ‘Gomorrah’ had been separate British and American attacks. The combination of both bomber forces gave Harris a substantial number of bombers and therefore a substantial number of bombs that could be dropped.

    Allied invasion of Italy
    The allied forces (Britain, France, Soviet Union, U. S. and China) came together to try and conquer Italy. Their plan was to get the northern forces to throw a net across the Italian Penninsula while the British army chased the Germans into it from the south. They had underestimated the Germans and by the time the northern forces tried to net the Italian Penninsula, the Germans had already moved north and established a defensive line. This acted as a stepping stone to conquering Italy. -Melanie

    Also known as Operation OVERLORD, D-Day was postponed twice before finally being executed on June 6, 1944 - also known as the "Day of Days". Its aim was for Allied forces to invade southern England to France, which was under German control at the time. It was one of the largest Allied coordinated successes and is the largest amphibious assault in recorded history.

    Battle of the Bulge
    In December 1944, Adolf Hitler decided to use the Blitzkrieg tactic against the Allies armies in northwest Europe. As the Germans drove deeper to secure vital bridgeheads, the Allied line took the shape of a bulge, hence the name. Lieutenant General George S. Patton maneuvered the Third Army to Bastogne proving to be vital the the Allied defense. This led to the neutralization of the German counteroffense. The objective was to split the Allied armies through Ardenns to Antwerp,

    The purpose of Operation Thunderclap was to bomb any eastern cities in Germany to destroy their infrastructure and to show the people of Germany that the Nazis had failed them due to their low defences.The city bombed was Dresden, the deventh largest city in Germany. There were two waves of bomings, the first at 10P.M. and the next at 1A.M. the following morning.

    On February 19, 1945, American soldiers make their first strike on the Japanese Home Islands at Iwo Jima. Americans invaded Iow Jima during WW1 because they were in need of a base near the Japanese coast. Americans had thre U.S marine divisions land on the Japanese island. However, Iow Jima was defended by around 23,000 Japanese army and navy troops. After only a month of fighting, the marines defeated the japanese defense. The American's desired an island as a base for the bombing campaign.

    Battle of Okinawa
    From April to June 1945, the final Japanese stand of World War 2 took place at the Battle of Okinawa as they tried to fight against the Allied invasion of the Japanese mainland. The island of Okinawa was a very strategic map marker for both sides. The Japanese sent out the IJN Yamato - the largest, most powerful battleship ever built - into battle, but it never reached its mission target zone and was taken down by the US Navy. Japanese airmen known as the Kamikaze took down 34 ships.

    V-E Day Is the day celebrated by the Allies victory over Germany. It has marked the end of war an defeated of the the Russians. The Americans and British came along together to defeat Germany. The Allies had begun to over run the Germany from the west during April as Russian forces advanced from the east. On 25th of April 1945 Allied and soviet met at the Elbe River , the Germany Army was all destroyed. Five days later Hitler killed his wife an committed suicide his bunker.

    In 1945 the United states of America dropped an atomic bomb in Hiroshima an Nakasaki. Because the Japanese attacked the peperarl habor in Hawaii over 70,000 people have died and also 40,000 Japanese people have died. The Japanese surrender to the United' States of America. The United Stares becomes the first and only nation to use the atomic weaponry during wartime when it drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
