    Settlement houses attracted people who are known as residents. They lived in poor urban neighborhood.

    In Chicago, Jane Addams bought a residence on the West Side that came to be known as Hull House. The resisdents of Hull House formed a huge group and supported immigrants' citizenship and education.

    She founded the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and which was origginally the Women's Peace Party (WILPF). She was the WILPF's first president.
