    Lincoln announces Ten Percent Plan
    Announcing the Ten Percent Plan was one of Lincoln's first step towards reconstruction. His Proclomation of Amnesty, more commonly known as the Ten Percent Plan stated that if 10 percent of a state's voters swore their loyalty to the Union and agreed to abolish slavery, they could be readmitted to the Union.

    Lincoln vetoes Wade-Davis Bill
    The Wade-Davis Bill required all states to accept the end of slavery and granted all African Americans the right to vote. Over half of a state's voters must sign a loyalty oath to the Union and state that they never supported rebellion before the state could be admitted back in to the Union.

    The freedmen's bureau was a wellfare agaency that was created in order to help black people, who were previously slaves, become citizens of the United States.

  • Mississippi enacts the first Black Code

    Mississippi enacts the first Black Code
    Black Codes were a series of laws that made freedsmen second-class citizens, practically slaves again. These laws denied African Americans the right to vote, the right to serve on juries, and called for segregation in many public places.

    This amendment gave slaves rights they had never had before. The amendment stated that all former slaves were at that point free and could no longer be considered property.

    Radical Republicans were citizens who favored extreme change in the United States and insisted on equal rights and harsh punishment for anyone who remain loyal to the U.S. They could've played a dangerous part in reconstruction because they were very fast to create a whole new plan in attempts to replace Lincoln's.

    The First Reconstruction Act applied to all the formerly confederate states excluding Tennessee. It divided the South into five military districts which were all controlled by a Northern General.

    Andrew Johnson was impeached because he breached the Tenure of Office act by removing the Secretary of War from the cabinet without approval from the Senate.

    Ulysses S. Grant wanted to help the effort to end slavery and get more benefits for African Americans. He wa shated by Sothern rebels because of his following in Lincoln's steps in relation to African Americans, but his efforts partially failed. He was optimistic and just wanted better for the nation.

    Sharecropping is a method of helping landowners pay wages. In sharecropping, a landowner temporarily loans a piece of their land to a farmer. To pay for this land, the farmer then shares a percentage of the money they make from their crops with the landowner.

    The 15th Amendment protected voting rights by stating that a state could not deny voting rights of a person based solely on their race.
