(pì Shēng), quien vivió y nació en la capital de China durante la dinastía Song del Norte (960-1127). pi Sheng fue un plebeyo y no se saben muchos detalles de sus ancestros. Solo se tiene registro de él en Writings Beside the Meng Creek (夢溪筆談 Mengxi Bitan, o Dream Pool Essays) por el erudito, oficial y polímata científico Shen Kuo (沈括) (593).
