    John krakauer has just summited everest he is sick and beat up he describes his struggle to breathe to the point where his mind cant think or function properly. Even though he has summited he can only think of the cold. The book skips ahead and talks about how people asks him questions after the many deaths. On Krakauers descent he is forced to wait to descend, after running out of Oxygen he is forced to navigate to the extra supply with almost nothing.

    Krakauer explains his own childhood and how unlike others he worshipped climbers, and dreamed of climbing Everest. But as he grew older he decided everest wasnt as advanced as other climbs.Krakauer also talks about how nepal and tibet both rely on the commercialsm and tourism of Everest to survive. He also explains how he was hired to do a story on Everest for outside magazine.

    John Krakauer flies to kathmandu when he arrives he meets a few members of his team who also hope to summit everest. Krakauer talks about there guide john hall a climber and guide famous for getting people to the top, krakauer also talks about halls denouncement by edmund hillary.Hall fought on and was one of the most succesful guides ever, making him krakaers perfect choice, on the way to base camp Krakauer reflects on the importance of trusting your climbing partners.

    Krakauer talks about the first couple of days of the trek and how he passed many sherpa villages. He talks about the history of the herpas and how climbing is so important to the economy of each village, without sherpas climbing would be many times harder.after reaching base camp the climbers acclimitize. Krakauer also talks about the neglect many sherpas have for there saftey after a young man fall into crevice and breaks his femur, he wasnt climbing with a rope.

    After weeks of aclimitization the trek to the top of everest begins in these weeks krakauer gives an over view of te climbing routine and those who he will be climbing with he tells how he has already done more hiking on his way to the base of Everest than everbefore the trek to the top would be grueling.

    the climb to camp 4also known as the deathzone is fairly uneventful and once they reach it things seem like they will go well. Krakauer explains the pain of the deathzone and how the oly thing you can think about is conserving your oxygen so you dont die. Its only during the climb to the top that problems begin to arise when the sherpas can not fix the ropes to the toplucky for Krakauer he is able to race to the top.

    Krakauer is the first person to reach the top he describes the pain of it, being ontop of the world but not being able to think.Krakauer stayed on top for only a few minutes but as he descended he realized that others would be late to the top the trail was congested and a storm was on its way, as krakauer waited for the trail to clear he asked one of his fellow climbers to turn his O down the man turned it up krakauer ran out quickly and barely got more before it was completely.

    When Krakauer reached camp 4 he was the first one and he was not sure weather or not others were even on there way the only other climber he had encountere anywhere near seemed to have gone insane, as conditions became worse he resorted to banging pots and pans in order to lead other climbers to camp in the white out, most of the climbers that made the climb are already on their way back and only a few return to camp. Many other climbers are stranded including john Hall.

    some of the climbers go on a rescue mission after returning to camp what they find is gruesome multiple frost bitten climbers incapacitated and unable to properly function some even dead Hall nowhere to be found. The rescue team tried to get back to camp for help, fischer the other guide and halls best friend has returned to camp. On may 11 the day after the ascent krakauer realizes that most of those in his party including Hall have dissappered are dead or injured.

    On may 11 fischer ascends everest for one final search forhis best friend ad fellow guide John Hall, Fischer finds Hall in his final moments barley holding on, fischer comforted Hall and let him die in his arms. In the fina chapter Krakauer talks about the evils of Everest and those who die on the mountain every year, he reflects on how Everest is not for the weak hearted and what an evil place the top of the world can be.
