Deming's real mom didn't want him and wanted to abort him but it was against the law both in China and in America. -
Beginning of his life
Deming is born from a single Mom and does badly in school and lies about it and other things his mother would not approve of. -
Foster kid in hope
Deming's mother has now left or taken by authority because she was not a legal citizen. Because of financial trouble in the room Deming shares with friends he was given to the foster system. He hopes his mother is at a new job and is just waiting for him. -
Being adopted
Two professors adopt Deming and expect his to be like any other ordinary chinese kid. Deming doesn't like it they don't speak his primary language they don't allow a lot of TV hours like his old house. -
Deming wants to run away
Deming is visiting some his adopted parents friends who have a adopted china kid. Deming takes questions the girl about having parents who aren't your own. He eventually along with her goes to his old home and no one he knows is there anymore. Deming comes back though. -
Deming tries to find his mother
Deming misses his mother and wants to know what happened. His old friend michael that lived with him and his mother wants to know too and found out. He directs Deming to Vivian who has the papers and phone number of someone who has contact with her. -
Deming finds his mother
Deming gets the phone number of his mom. His mom gives big hints that she is keeping him a secret from her new husband. -
Deming doesn't fit in China
Deming goes to China to visit his Mother. He gets a Job from his mother's connections to teach. He teaches classes with challenges to speak in english when they talk to him. People laugh at him for it but it works. He does it so well that people request to take his class. Deming is still an American, he walks with headphones on in China which is not usual. Since he always gets tried of the strange looks and his adopted family miss him he goes back. -
Debt
Deming begins to need money. He starts gambling and a starts out good but eventually loses everything. He starts asking for loans from friends at the college. When they don't give him anymore loans he goes to his adopted parents friends daughter. He doesn't pay her back she gets mad and doesn't speak to him. He doesn't want to tell his adopted parents. -
The Band
His adopted parents want him to be successful at college. Deming, or Daniel, wants a different direction in which is music. Deming hooks up with his old high school friend but when his friend goes a direction of not their own music Deming gets upset. His friend eventually replaces him.
