Lakatos's most significant contribution to the philosophy of science is his model named the "Research Program." In his model, he tries to find the answer to the conflict between Karl Popper's theory on falsification and Thomas Kuhn's theory of normal science, where science undergoes periodic revolutions, also called paradigm shifts.

in a 1973 lecture, Lakatos proposed that one to date has proved that Darwin's theory was indeed scientific. In 1991, almost 20 years later, one of his ex-colleagues took upon this challenge to prove that It was indeed scientific but the lack of facts forced their theory to not work.
