    Colonization

    Colonization
    The first European coloniztion occured in 1492 by the Spanish which was led by Christopher Columbus.
  • British settlement

    British settlement
    The British founded Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. This led the further colonization across America.
  • Declaraton of Independence

    Declaraton of Independence
    Seperating the United States from England allowed for our indepence on decisions regarding the country.
  • Naturalization Act

    Naturalization Act
    This act allowed white men have to live in the United States for two years to become an American Citizen. This was one of the first immigration laws in the United States.
  • Naturalization Act of 1870

    Naturalization Act of 1870
    This is an addition to the previous Naturalization Act. This addition allows for African American. This started the immigration process for non-white men, but continued to discriminate against other races such as asians and hispanics.
  • Immigration Act

    Immigration Act
    This act is the first known inmmigration act for the United States. This imposed a $.50 tax on new immigrants arriving in the U.S. This act also banned "convicts, lunatics, idiots, and persons likely to become public charges".

    The Naturalization Act of 1906 created the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization. By doing this they created a new system for allowing immigrants into the United States.

    This act required for immigrants 14 years old and older to register with the government and to be fingerprinted.

    Hiring of Mexican farmers
    Because of World War II the US was lacking farmers because so many went to fight in the war. So the US began hiring Mexican farmers to work on the farms of the soldiers.

    Eliminates racial preudice, but quotas are still in place so discrimination of immigrants is continuing.

    This act eliminates the immigration quotas that were in place. But the act still limits the amount of immigrants that can enter the United States.

    Increased number of immigrants to enter the US annually. This act also changed the use of visa's in the US.

    This act requires statesto verify a person's citizeship before issuing any sort of license.
