    Jamestown was Founded. It becomes the first British Colony in America.

    Black slaves arrive from West Africa to Jamestown. A group of 20 Africans. This was against their own will.

    Puritans migrate to New England. Plymouth Bay is established. The immigrants were known as pilgrims.

    The first Native American reservation gets established. They create policies for each tribe.
  • 1790

    Naturalization Act of 1790. Grants natural citizenship. Not including Native Americans, Asians, Blacks and indentured servants.

    Act prohibiting the importation of slaves. No new slaves were permitted to America.

    Irish and German Immigration. Came to escape civil unrest, unemployment and hardships.

    California Gold Rush.Attracted immigrants that wanted to be miners. From places like China, Australia and Europe.

    Supreme Court made it unconstitutional for states to regulate immigration and tax incoming passengers. Taxes would be under federal government.

    Millions of Jews immigrate to America seeking opportunity. And to attempt to get away from the Russian Empire.

    The Great Migration to the Mississippi Territory. Immigrants left the comfort of where they came from in order to have opportunity.

    Immigration percentage drops due to war. Most immigrants started coming from Latin America, Canada, Eastern and Southern European countries.

    The Asiatic Barred Zone Act. Kept 'undesirables' from other countries. Overrided Woodrow Wilson's veto.

    Immigration Act of 1924. Limited number of people allowed into the United States. Visas only given to two percent of each nationality.

    The Hart-Cellar Act. Focus on reuniting families and getting skilled labor for the US.
