  • Creation Of Immigration Categories

    Creation Of Immigration Categories
    During this time Canadian government created specific categories for immigration. It is split into 3 categories(in 2006), skilled workers, family class, and investors and Entrepreneurs. When immigrants are immigrating they are put into these categorizes and selected from there.
  • Chinese Head Tax

    Chinese Head Tax
    This was meant to discourage people from Chinese decent from entering Canada after the rail way was finished being built. This happened after the Canadian parliament decided to pass the Chinese Immigration Act.
  • Komagata Maru Incident

    Komagata Maru Incident
    The Komagata Maru incident involved the Japanese steamship Komagata. This is where a group of citizens of the British Raj attempted to immigrate to Canada in 1914 but were denied entry. There was 376 people trying to immigrate but only 24 were admitted to Canada.
  • Internment of Ukrainian Canadians

    Internment of Ukrainian Canadians
    This internment was done under the War Measures Act. 4000 Ukrainian men, woman, and children were kept in 24 internment camps where men were forced to work and their savings were not accessible to them until they were released. Families were separated and men were sent off to work.
  • Internment Of The Japanese Canadians

    Internment Of The Japanese Canadians
    This took place after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1914. Canadians of Japanese heritage were removed from their homes and businesses and sent to internment camps, where much like the other internment's they were forced work. Their families did not go and live in the camps with the men, however they did have to pack up the family and move.
  • Internment Of Italian Canadians

    Internment Of Italian Canadians
    This took place when Italy declared war upon Canada. 500 men where placed in internment camps and forced to work. Their families were not forced to go with the men, however they often followed. About 4 women eventually ended up in an internment camp but it was mostly men apart from the 4 women.
  • Immigration Act

    The Immigration Act was an Act put into place for immigration to limit how many immigrants could enter Canada a year. This act gave provinces in Canada more power to set laws for immigration. It also created 4 new classes of immigrants who could come to Canada: Independent Immigrants, Families, Refugees, and Assisted Relatives.
  • Singh Decision

    Singh Decision
    The Signh Decision is also known as Refugee Day in Canada, on April 4. This event occured because Satnam Signh came to Canada (From India) as he was seeking a Refuge Status here in Canada. But Under the Immigration Act of 1976 they denied his case completely.
  • Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

    Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
    This act replaced the "Immigration Act of 1976". This act protects Canadian Immigrants and Refugees while they are in the process of coming over to Canada and while they are waiting for paper work, applications and such to go through.
  • Refugees Being Added as an Imimgration Catagory

    Refugees Being Added as an Imimgration Catagory
    Refugees were added as a category within Canadian immigration. Before this time they were not necessarily a category, they were more of a group. This also added a sense of security to the refugees coming over to Canada. Before they could only come in if their was a crisis in their country but now they can just constantly flow in.
