  • The Panic of 1873

    An outburst of anger towards immigrants in america. Denis Kearny was the "party" leader and his speaches were hateful towards chinese americans and it led to a following that went through america attacking and protesting against the chinese. This was important to American History because it was the start of segregation and showed that violence is pointless.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    The Chinese Exclusion act denied citizenship to people born in china and prohibited the immigration of chinese laborers. It effected Chinese americans greatly since it completely made their presence illegal (if they were born in china).
  • Mob in Rock Springs

    In the Wyoming Territory 28 chinese people were murdered and hundreds more were drove out. This effected chinese americans in a bad way but they still werent fully detered. Some came to the US only to be held in immigration stations.
  • Greary Act

    The Greary Act took place after the Chinese Exclusion act expired in 1892 and was perminent in 1902. the law regulated chinese immigration until 1920. This law also made it easy for the chinese government to keep track of the inflation in the country since all residents were required to keep records for their citizenship. This was important because it regulated immigration for years.
  • Grover Cleveland Veto

    President Grover Cleveland was president when congress passed a law that made it so immigrants had to pass a literacy test in order to be granted citizenship. He called it unamerican and during his time in office the idea was never put into effect. This had a negative impact on the country because he put an end to something that may or may not have stopped the frequent violence.
  • The Great Migration

    The Great Migration was the mass movement of about five million southern blacks to the north and west between 1915 and 1960. this was important because at the time the economy in the north was dwindling and the move of blacks to the north meant jobs were being taken.
  • Congress Repeals Exclusion Act

    congress repealed all exclusion acts this left a yearly limit of 105 chinese and native chinese to seek naturalization.
