    The Steerage Act put in place the standards for the United States of ships carrying people into the U.S. This act also made ship captains to show a list of passengers arriving.

    The Geary Act extended the Chinese Exclusion Act by adding new requirments. This act required Chinese to carry a resident’s permit which could be described as a passport. Failure for the Chinese to carry this permit would lead to deportation.
