    Iranian students invaded the US Embassy in Iran and took hundreds of people hostage. The Americans were kidnapped for a long period of time, and Khomeini was in charge of the kidnapping and release.

    Timothy McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City as revenge on the government for dealings at Waco and Ruby Ridge. The citizens felt they were mistreated by the federal government. 168 people were killed.

    Kenya and Tanzania were simutaneously bombed by Al Qaeda. This event was the first time Amerians got a glimse at Osama Bin Laden and AL Qaeda. Two-hundred people were killed.

    In Yemen, Al Qaeda operatives sent a suicide bomber aboard a small speed boat into the USS Cole, a US Navy destroyer, and detonated its bomb, blowing a large hole in the US Navy ship. Seventeen people were killed.

    Four planes coming into the US were hijacked my Islamic Middle Easterns. Two were crashed into the World Trade Center, one was crashed into the Pentagon in DC, and the last one, going for the White House, was stopped by the plane passengers and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. Thousands were killed, and this is known as the worst terrorist attack in world history.

    The ongoing war in Afghanistan was started when America invaded in reaction to 9/11. (invasion of NATO and allied forces) Although we were just looking for bin Laden at first, much more trouble and corruption happened than expected. The war is still going on today.

    It was developed shortly after the attacks on 9/11 as a way to develop more US security against terrorism. Tom Ridge became the first director.

    A mass murder took place at Fort Hood, Texas. Nidal Malik Hasan, a U.S. Army major and psychiatrist, shot 13 people and injured more than 30 others. Several individuals have called the event a terrorist attack.
