    A law is passed, Arizona state statute 13-2319, that makes it a felony to smuggle humans across the border.
  • HR 4437 Passes House but dies in Senate

    HR 4437 passes the in the House of Representatives, but dies in the Senate. It was a bill that increased border protection, prohibited aid to illegal immigrants, and increased the penalty for illegal immigration, among other things. This is what sparked the national debate for immigration reform.
  • 500,000+ People protest immigration reform in L.A.

    In downtown Los Angelos, 500,000+ people march in protest of the immigration reform.
  • S. 1348 Introduced - Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act

    The Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007 is introduced, but unfortunately died 2 months later, after it failed a vote for cloture.
  • Employer Sanctions Law is passed

    Law is passed that prohibits employers from hiring illegal aliens. They use the free E-Verify system to ensure they are hiring legal residents.
  • HR 264 Passes - 1st Immigration Reform attempt

    This was the first attempt to reform the immigration policy in the US. Called the Save America Comprehensive Immigration Act.
  • Robert Krentz murdered

    Douglas, AZ rancher was killed on a known drug smuggling route.
  • SB 1070 passed into Law

  • Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2011

    Law passed requiring illegal immigrants to register with the federal government while they become legal citizens by learning English, paying fines, pass a background check, pay taxes, etc.
  • Arizona Vs. United States

    Supreme court case of Arizona vs. United States decided that SB1070 was unconstitutional, and sent it back to the Arizona congress for revisions. They allowed the "Show me your papers" component to be kept.
  • Obama makes immigration reform priority

    Obama is inaugurated into the presidency, and during his inaugural address, he makes it very clear that immigration reform is his 2nd term priority.
  • HR 264 Reintroduced as HR1525

    This HR 264 bill was reintroduced to the Congress in another attempt to reform the immigration policy, a topic that has been highly debated since 2004, maybe earlier.
  • Prop. 200 repealed by Supreme Court
