    At this time Vaudvilles were poular. they are small places that feature short films. This expanded into Nickalodeons.

    Edwin Poter created the first Narrated film. It was 12 minutes long and had 14 scenes.

    These were small storefronts stores where films were played. They were accompanied by piano and soud effects.

    in the early days, Nickelodeon was attracting 26 million people a day. 5 years later that number had doubled. Film soon attracted big profits.

    Thomas edison and the other movie companies created a trust. There idea was to use there patents to control the making of film. They were expecting big money.

    Back then all films were shot outside. Most movies were shot in the summer because they neede a lot of light and weather didnt cooperate.

    The MPPC didn use the actors real names fearing they would become famous and demand more money. A famous man from film is Mary Pickford. He starred in most of the films in 1912

    In the 1920s Charlie Chaplin was the genius behind silent comedies. He got payed 150 dollars a week by 1917 was making more than a million a year.
