This Act allowed white people to become an American citizen through naturalization. Naturalization is a process that people have to go through to become a citizen of the US. This allowed white people to become free. This did not discriminate against women. The people trying to gain citizenship had to reside in America for at least two years. Once granted citizenship the person was required to live within the state that they were granted citizenship in for at least 1 year.
