    Hillary Putnam was a philosopher of mind, he was a mathematician and he was also a computer scientist. He is best known for his work that concerns with the philosophy of mind. In the late 1960's he set out with the hypothesis of multiple realizability.

    he was a big social rights activist. He was a supporter of the American Civil Rights Movement and he also thought that the wars were awful.

    He is accredited to multiple different types of Philosophies. With Martin Davis he developed the Davis-Putnam algorithm for the Boolean satisfiability problem which is the problem of determining if there exists an interpretation that satisfies a given Boolean formula. He also said that it is not necessarily true that pain is identical to C-fibre firing. In his papers he states that pain could correspond to different physical states of the nervous system.

    In 2011 Hilary Putnam was awarded the Rolf Schock Prize in Logic and Philosophy and in 2015 Putnam was also awarded the Nicholas Rescher Prize for Systematic Philosophy
