Helen Elizabeth Longino was born on July 13, 1944
-
Longino received her bachelor of arts in English literature from Barnard College in 1966.
Barnard College is a private women's liberal arts college in New York City. It was founded in 1889 by Annie Nathan Meyer as a response to Columbia University's refusal to admit women. -
Longino earned her masters of arts in philosophy from the University of Sussex, England, in 1967
-
Longino then earned her PhD from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1973 where she studied under Peter Achinstein. Peter specializes in philosophy of science and has interests in the history of science as well.
-
Longino published her first book, titled "Science as Social Knowledge". In this book, Longino focuses on filling the gap between philosophy of science and the social science. She discusses how social expectations shape the development of science while at the same time recognizing the dependence of scientific inquiry on its interactions with natural phenomena.
-
Longino publishes her second book titled "The Fate of Knowledge". In this book Longino builds off her first book "Science as Social Knowledge" and introduces scientific pluralism.
-
In 2013 Longino published a book titled "Studying Human Behavior". Longino has published quite a few books, however this is truly the epiphany of her work. In this book she discusses scientific approaches to the study of human aggression and sexuality to argue that there is no correct way to divide nature from nurture.

"This lecture explores how the same phenomenon assumes different forms from different research perspectives and consequences of this for our understanding of scientific knowledge." -
I could continue to list all of Helen Longino's long list of life accomplishments and describe how they relate to the Philosophy of science. However, there is not one specific book, article or lecture that defines her. As we approach current and future years women are becoming more and more known for their accomplishments and Helen Longino is a ground breaking philosopher who has argued and proven her views and research on science, objectivity, and feminist values.
