Gun Control Legislation within the United States

  • Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act

    Prohibits interstate trade in handguns and it also increased the age to 21 for buying a handgun.
  • National Firearms Act

    This act revised many provisions set forth in the Gun Control Act of 1968. For example it protects people passing through states with strict gun control laws.
  • Firearm Owners Protection Act

    Prohibits the sale of firearms to a prohibited persons list and also says that background checks must be destroyed after 24 hours.
  • Undetectable Firearms Act

    This makes it illegal for anybody to create a firearm that would be undetectable in an airport security metal detector.
  • Gun Free School Zone Act

    A US federal law that prohits someone from carrying a gun knowingly on a school zone property.
  • Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act

    Commonly called the Brady Law, this law requires federal background checks on firearm purchases in the US.
  • Federal Assault Weapons Ban

    A prohibition on the manufacture on civilan use of certain semi-automatic firearms.
  • Federal Assult Weapons Ban Expires

    This 10 year ban of assult weapons was passed by Congress on Septemeber 13th, 1994. It banned all semi automatic guns manufactured after Septemeber 13th but this law recently expired in 2004.
  • Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act

    Prevents firearms manufacturers from being held liable about their products being used in a harmful way.
