  • Battle of Poland

    German forces invaded Poland from the north, south, and west. Blitzkrieg was a strategy of war used, of suprise attacks with fast moving tanks, airplanes, and infantry. Poland withdrew their defenses, waiting for Britain and France to get involved, and help them.
  • Battle of the Atlantic

    The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest military battle of WWII, running from 1939-1945, when Germany was eventually defeated. This Battle put German air force and navy against Allied merchant ships, protected by British and Canadian navy and air forces. Germany was attempting to prevent the build up of supplies in Allied countries.
  • Battle of France

    The German invasion of France, which ended the Phoney war (Battle of Dunkirk). German armoured units pushed through the Ardennes forests, to surround the Allies who had advanced to Belgium. Germans also, used a flank attack strategy to avoid the maginot line and push deeper into France.
  • Battle of Dunkirk (France)

    The battle between the Allies and Germany. A maginot line was a strategy used, by the french, where a line of concrete fortifications, artillery, tank obstacles, and machine gun posts were used as defense against Germany. The Miracle of Dunkirk is known as the British soldiers escaping almost certain capture from Germany.
  • The Battle of Britain

    The air campaign started by the German Air Force against the United Kingdom during the summer and fall of 1940. The objective of this battle was for Germany to gain air superiority against Britain. The battle was fought entirely in the air, of Britain, and Britain was the winner. This battle was considered one of Germany's first major losses, and a turning point in the war.
  • Battle of North Africa

    Allies attacked and trapped Axis, until they surrendur, and the US troops push East, while Britain moves West.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    The code name for Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union. Over 4.5 million Axis troops invaded the Soviet Union.
  • Phillipines

    Us took over the Phillipines in June of 1945
  • Pearl Harbor

    Us ships are attacked in Hawaii, by Japanese planes.
  • Battle of Midway

    Japanese attack US at Midway Island in hopes to destroy US fleet, using bombs. Battle was fought entirely in the air. The strategy of Island Hopping was used in the Pacific Theatre by the US to attack, only islands that posed a threat, with navy bases or troops.
  • Battle of Stalingrad

    Germany and Soviet Union fought at Stalingrad, Germany was pushing the Soviet Union back until the Soviet Union attacked Germany and forced them to surrendur, which was a turning point in the war.
  • Battle of El Alemein

    Britain vs. Germany battle fought in North Africa, decided Allied victory.
  • D-Day

    Allies invade Germany. The Allies used both an air assault and land assault against Germany.
  • Battle of Leyte Gulf

    American and Japanese battle lasting 3 days, first battle in which Japanes kamikazes were used. America was victorious.
  • Battle of Iwo Jima

    US bombs Japanes island of Iwo Jima, which was used as a safe hiding spot for Japan until America cleared it.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    Battle initiated by Germany against the allies, that took place in Belgium.
  • Battle of Okinawa

    Allie victory against Japan on small island of Okinawa.
  • V-E Day (Victory Europe)

    The Day when Allied forces formally accepted the unconditional surrendur of Nazi Germany, and the end of Adolf Hitler's reign.
  • Hiroshima

    US drops first atomic bomb by plane in Japan.
  • Nagasaki

    US drops a second atomic bomb in Japan.
  • V-J Day

    The day on which Japan surrendured, effectively ending WWII.
