    Golding was born in Cornwall, England. Father was a school teacher and his mother was a supporter of the suffragette movement

    He attended Brasenose college at oxford and spent 2 years studying science, his 3rd year he switched to the literature program

    He worked as a writer, actor, and producer with a small theatre making money as a social worker, in 1939 he decides to go teach English and philosophy in Salisbury

  • Golding joins the navy

    Golding decided to take a temporary brake from literature

    After a 5 year break and joining the navy he remained a teacher until he quit to become a full time writer
