    Binet & Simon Test Creation
    A test is created to identify inferior students to those that were "normal" in order to remediate and help this population. Unintentionally creating a way to identify intelligence based on a single number. IObserving studens in vairous settngs and groups, they figured out how to create a mental age for children depending on their capabilities but he realized there were limitations to their study and children could be influenced by their environment.

    Genetic Studies of Genius
    Developed the longest longitudinal study that is still ongoing regarding intellect from childhood to adulthood. He found that gifted children shared common characteristics in comparison to the general population. Students were physically/emotionally better, superior academically, emotionally stable, and found success when education and family were valued greatly in the home. He believed intelligence was inherited and when IQ is tested, the result should determine the job track children follow.

    This law opened the doors for thousands of Americans who would not have been afforded the opportunity to attend college otherwise. Allowing vets to have a part in life after the war, gave purpose and drive to so many people willing to learn and achieve. WIthout this, it's hard to know where our country would be today.

    A new development for gifted education was becoming nationally known as a organization capable of meeting the needs of the advanced youth. This step gave fidelity to the research that had been going on for years and provided a space to solidify themselves permanently in our society. Brown vs Board opened our nations eyes to a new way of thinking and although not directly related to gifted it gave way to seeing children deserve opportunity whatever it may be.

    The first large scale education movement recognized by the federal government to support students who are gifted and talented. We were falling behind the soviet union and this was an attempt to catch up in the sciences. However, because funding was hindered on the affidavit that stated all beneficiaries of the act [would] complete an affidavit disclaiming belief in the overthrow of the U.S. government, limiting participants to academic freedom many universities refused the funding.

    A report with disturbing results of the American education eystem falling behind our world wide competitors. It demonstrated the need for advancements in science and technology. This alarming study drove all branches of government to reform education to meet the needs of our fast growing future. Fortunately gifted education was highlighted as an area in which, if we expended funding, it would be beneficial in this reform.

It paralled A Nation at Risk testing students comparatively on an international level finding our students are still falling behind. It identified ways to meet the needs of gifted students, best practices for identifying talent and gifted students, and strategies for mainstream classroom accomodations.

    A deep look into how we are still not meeting the needs of gifted and talented students. Despite the efforts between the 1920's for testing, the 1950's research based results and numerous reports over the past 30 years our students who could potentially be performing at high levels are continually being held inside a box designed for a generation long passed. Solution suggestions for acceleration are made and many adopt these practices in their school.
