Dwight D. Eisenhower wanted all German forces to surrender however, the Germans wanted just for the west to surrender. Eisenhower declined and made them surrender in all fronts. Hitler's successor, Donitz, made the decision to sign. The war in the west was over but, in the east, it would last one more day.
