    Civil War between nationalists and communists. A military struggle between two competing groups for control of chinese government.

    A conference bwtween Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin discussing important things regarding future war progress and the postwar world. This is important because America and the Soviet Union disagreed on alot of things which caused tension.
  • Arms Race

    The arms race between the Soviet Union and the U.S. was a competition between the two nations to accumulate the most powerful and advanced nuclear weapons. The purpose was to make yourself so powerful, in the eyes of your enemy, that you would not be attacked, and if you were, you could retaliate against the aggressor.

    The creation of the "Iron Curtain"
    "Iron Curtain" is a term used to describe the boundary that separated the Warsaw Pact countries from the NATO countries from about 1945 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. The Iron Curtain was both a physical and an ideological division that represented the way Europe was viewed after World War II. To the east of the Iron Curtain were the countries that were connected to or influenced by the former Soviet Union. This included part of Germany Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania

    Offered support from the U.S to any country resisting consistent pressure from communist influence. Many European countries excepted this. Its important because it shows how the Cold WAr was fought indirectly. This was geared towards bansihing communism.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The Marshall Plan (officially the European Recovery Program, ERP) was the American program to aid Europe where the United States gave monetary support to help rebuild European economies after the end of World War II in order to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism. The plan was in operation for four years beginning in April 1948. The goals of the United States were to rebuild a war-devastated region, remove trade barriers, modernize industry, and make Europe prosperous again.

    The first major international crises of the Cold War. Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies' railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under the control of Allies.

    When the Soviet Union blocked all shipments in and out of Berlin. Airlifted military supplies to American garrison in the city. This is important becuase it showed how the Soviet Union indirectly fought this war.

    Formed with the signing of the Washington treaty. NATO is a security alliance of 28 countries from North America and Europe. NATO's goal is to safeguard the allies freedom and security by political and military means.

    The Korean War begins, when North Korea attacks South Korea. The U.S. and others U.N members fight North Korea forces also. The Korean wars ends in 1953. North Korea stays with Russia while South Korea stays affiliated with U.S.

    MacArthur argued for a policy of pushing into North Korea to completely defeat the communist forces. Problems with the General MacArthur had been brewing for months.The firing of MacArthur set off a brief uproar among the American public, but Truman remained committed to keeping the conflict in Korea a "limited war."

    Stalin was the supreme ruler of the Soviet Union for a quarter of a century. His regime of terror caused the death and suffering of tens of millions, but he also oversaw the war machine that played a key role in the defeat of Nazism. He basically started the cold war.

    It all began as a protest against Communism rules. At first a new government was made and introduced democracy and freedom of speech and religion. However, the Societ Union tanks returned on Nov and declare war on them. Hungary lost.

    The 1960 U-2 incident occurred during the Cold War on 1 May 1960, during the presidency of Dwight Eisenhower and during the leadership of Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev, when a United States U-2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union. The United States government at first denied the plane's purpose and mission, but then was forced to admit its role as a covert surveillance aircraft when the Soviet government produced its intact remains and surviving pilot.

    Soviets placed missile in Cuba and refused to remove them for a while! This caused the American goverment to worry deeply and respond drastically. After negotiations the missles were removed. This is important because this was the closest America came to World War 3. It also sparked the rivalry between America and Russia.

    He purposed placing nuclear missiles in Cuba to restore the balance of power during the Cold War. He was also the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from 1953-1964.

    The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF) is a 1987 agreement between the United States and the Soviet Union.     After the Second World War Germany had been divided into two countries. One was the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG), also called "West Germany". The other part was the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was also called "East Germany". The German reunification was on October 3, 1990 when East Germany again became a part of the Federal Republic of Germany.

    The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics was formally dissolved on 26 December 1991 by declaration of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. This declaration acknowledged the independence of all fifteen republics of the Soviet Union following the creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States. On the previous day, 25 December 1991, Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev had resigned, declaring his office extinct, and handed over the Soviet nuclear missile launching
