    George Perkins is born to two merchants in Boston, Massachusetts. His older brother, James, is four.

    While walking home one night, George witnesses a mob throwing ice and British soldiers. At first, George thinks it's funny, but then the mob escalates into something much more dangerous. Five colonists die when the British begin firing.
