    Election of Abraham Lincoln
    Abraham Lincoln was elected president on November 6th 1860. This was important because Abraham Lincoln helped us during the time of slavery and led us through the Civil Rights movement.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    Abraham Lincoln announced on Januaray 1st 1863 that all people held as slaves could no longer be slaves because they were annouced as free people.
  • Succession

    Succession
    On April 11th 1865, Andrew Johnson took over after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Succession made this happen because by a set of laws, it says if a president dies or leaves office they will be replaced by their Vice President. Andrew Johnson was the Vice President at the time of Lincoln's death. This is important because without succession, nobody would know who was going to be Vice President

    Thirteenth Amendment
    The Thirteenth Amendment states that, "neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime wherof the party shall been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." This is important because it abolishes slavery.

    Formation of the Klu Klux Klan
    The formation of the Klu Klux Klan took place in Gallinton Tennesse. It was held as a meeting to talk about the fifteenth amendment, but as they got to talking, they realized they were all against black people. This is important because it was the first group of people to hate african americans.

    The fourteenth amendment states that "All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction therof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside." This is important because it allows you to be a citizen if you are naturally born in the United States
  • 15th amendment

    The fifteenth amendment states, "the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on amount of race, color, or previous condition of servitude." This is important because it allowed black men to vote.

    The election of 1876 was important becuase it ended Reconstruction.

    Civil RIghts cases of 1883
    The Civil Rights Cases of 1883 were important because they dealed with segregation and how the African Americans sued different facilites for refusing them service because they were "white" only places.
  • Jim Crow laws

    Jim Crow laws
    Jim Crow laws kept segregation between the whites and the blacks. The laws kept whites at "white" only places and African Americans at "black" only places. This kept the two races away from each other.
