    Magna Carta
    The cause of this document to be created was becuase of how harsh King John was treating the nobles. So a bunch of nobles got together and rebelled against their king, King John and forced him to sign a document that give the nobles privileges and granted them their rights including equal treatment.

    Virginia House of Burgesses
    The cause of this was Jamestown was tired of being governed by Virgina. The purpose was so they were self governed. The effect was it was the first self governed american colony.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    The cause of this was Pilgrims from England realized they needed laws and a governor for the new world. The purpose of this was so to come up with laws and a governor inorder to successfuly rule the new world so 41 men of the 102 that came over on the Mayflower signed the agreement.

    He believed that all people were born free, independent, and equal and felt like they had natural rights. He also believed that if the government would try and take away the people's natural rights away from them then it would be breaking the social contract.

    This was America's first constitution that called for representatives from each town to come together and make laws as well as a popular election of judges and a governor. The american government still has this but it is called the United Nations. The cause of this event was Pilgrims began to get persecuted just because of their religion.

    He was an enlightment thinker that came up with the idea of seperation of powers which meant he felt as if all the power should be equally divided up into the different branches so not just one branch had all the power.

    The purpose of this document was to equally seperate the amount of power that the king or queen had, this is now know as the seperation of powers. The cause of this was the citizens wanted the king or queen to now be treated as if they were better then everyone else.

    Voltaire was an elightnment thinker whos main belief was the freedom of speech. He believed this was very important, so much that he would defend what you had to say even if he didnt agree with it.

    He was a French philosopher, he wrote in "The Social Contract" and said "man is born free, yet everywhere he is found in chains." the cause of him saying this is becuase he felt like the people had the freedom to govern themselves but felt like the government was holding them back.
