  • First Progress Report

    Charlie Gordon of 37 years writes his first progress report for Dr. Strauss. He is doing some sort of expiriment. "I hope they use me. Miss Kinnian says maybe they can make me smart." (371)
  • Second Progress Report

    Charlie took a Rorschach Test, which he felt as though he did not pass, which is strange because the test is based on interpretations. " I closed mv eves for a long time to pretend. I told him I pretend a fowutan pen with ink leeking all over a table cloth. I don't think I passed the raw shok test." (372)
  • Third Progress Report

    Charlie played a game today which was like a maze on paper with a white mouse named Algernon. "I dint know that mice were so smart. Maybe thats because Algernon is a white mouse. Maybe white mice are smarter than other mice." (374)
  • Fourth Progress Report

    Charlie finds out that he is going to be used for the expiriment. He is very exitied becuase he is going to become smart. "After the operashun Im gonna try to be smart. Im gonna try awful hard." (375)
  • Charlie Progressis With His Spelling

    Charlie is taught to become a better speller by Miss Kinnian. Sheteaches him how to learn and remeber a word. "She says look at a word and close your eyes and say it over and over until you remember."
  • Charlie becomes aware of others cruelty twoards him

    In this progress report, Charlie talks about going to a party and everybody making fun of him because of his clumsness. He danced with a girl but it was only because she was mocking him. "Now I know what it means when they say "to pull a Charlie Gordon." I'm ashamed."
  • Charlie loses his Job

    Charlie left his job with Donnegan's Plastic Box Company, but it wasn't by choice. There was a signed petition by all 800 workers exept a woman named Fanny Girden. Sp, he left his job.
  • Charlie starts typing

    Charlie didn't write a progress report for an entire two weeks, and Dr. Strauss was very angry with him. He can type an incredible 75 words a minute, and his vocabulary has advanced incredibly, along with his overall knwoledge. "Contrary to my earlier impressions of him, I realize that Dr. Nemur is not at all a genius. He has a very good mind, but it struggles tinder the spectre of self-doubt. He wants people to take him for a genius."
  • Charlie's intilectual level has far surpassed Miss Kinn

    Charlie is so inteligent at this point that he is unable to hold a conversation with Miss Kinn, because he is so much smarter than she. "I saw Miss Kinn ian last night for the first time in over a week. I tried to avoid all discussions of intellectual concepts and to keep the conversation on a simple, everyday level, but she just stared at me blankly and asked me what I meant about the mathematical variance equivalent in Dorber-mann s Fifth Concerto."
  • Algernon Bites Back

    The white mouse Algernon, bit Charlie when he took him out of his cage. "I put him back and watched him for a while. He was unusually disturbed and vicious." This is disturbing, foreshadowing of Charlie's futre.
  • Charlie's Lab

    Charlie was given permission to work in a lab on a project of his own. Working day and night, he had a cot moved into the lab for him. He created a folder for all of is notes. "I find the calculus of intelligence to be a fascinating study. Here is the place for the application of all the knowledge I have acquired."
  • Charlie becomes solitary

    Dr. Strauss came to see Charlie, but Charlie didn't want to see him. He is starting to lose his memory. " It's a strange sensation to pick up a book that you've read and enjoyed just a few months ago and discover that you don't remember it. I remembered how great I thought John Milton was, but when I picked up Paradise Lost I couldn't understand it at all."
  • Languges are gone

    Charlie can no longer type, and has completley lost all ability to speak and/or read in a forign launguage. "First I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. Then I realized I could no longer read German. I tested myself in other languages. All gone."
  • Charlie's end

    Charlie can no longer how to properly spell, or even format a sentance. He remebers that he is the "the first dumb person in the world who ever found out something importent for sience." He is going away to New York with lots of book and his lucky charms. As a last note, he says, "P.P.S. Please if you get a chanse put some flowrs on Algernons grave in the bak yard...."
