  • The First Film

    The Horse In Motion was created in 1878 by Eadward Muybridge on a horse racing bet for $25,000. They lined camera's up by the tracks and took pictures of them, complied them together and made a smooth looking video of a horse running.
  • First Horror Film

    The Haunted Castle or Le Manoir du diable, was directed by George Melies. A short 3 minute film had the essentials of a first nosferatu flick.
  • First Science Fiction Movie

    A Trip to the Moon, otherwise known as Le Voyage dans la Lune, was the first 'sci-fi' movie. Directed by George Melies, it was a French silent movie.
  • First Epic

    The Great Train Robbery was the the longest movie out at the time of realese, a total of 10 minutes worth of film. Directed by Eddie S. Porter in 1903, he used innovative cinematic techniques. He was inspired by real life's, Butch Cassidy.
  • Fantasmagorie

    The first fully animated film ever, created by Emile Cohl. It was drawn all by hand and totalled in less than 2 minutes long.
  • First Frankeinstien

    J. Searle Dawley wrote and directed the first Frankenstien movie in one day. The film was about 12 minutes long and started a film legacy.
  • Gertie

    Perhaps the single most inspiraton for the iconic Mickey Mouse and his gang, here we have an animated dinosaur, who interacted one screen with a man like a pet.
  • First Impressionistic Film

    Or, at least, a very important one. Aclaimed to be the greatest horror film in early cinema, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was the first ever film to introduce the 'twist ending'.
  • Warner Brothers

    The Wanrer Brothers started their film company in 1923, soon becoming one of the most well known cinema companies in America.
  • First Soundtrack

    The title may decieve you, this is the first full length soundtrack in a movie, Don Juan. The Warner Brothers took a chance of Vitasound to create the first soundtrack, and the movie itself was mainly music, because in the words of Harry Warner:"Who wants to hear actors talk? The music – that's the big plus about this."
  • First Musical

    The Jazz Singer, was the first ever musical on film.
  • Disney

    The great Walt Disney made Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse in 1928.
