    Eadweard Muybridge discovered motion pictures through a bet with his jolly ol' pals. To prove that while a horse runs all 4 of its legs were in the air at some point. He took sequential pictures of a horse running and realized that if you looked at them quickly it showed movement.

    Louis le Prince tried patenting the first motion picture camera before disappearing but the invention's credit was given to Thomas Edison. He disappeared on 16 September 1890 and was never able to publicly display his invention. He made the single and 16-lens camera.

    The Lumiere Brothers were the first people to show an audience a film through projection instead of kinetoscope. It cost one-franc to enter and watch a 30-second film. One of the first motion pictures shown was of a train, which scared viewers so much that that jumped out of the way. They patented the word "cinemategraphe" which is why we call it cinematography to this day.
