In 1920 Virgina was the first state to have Futures Farmers Clubs for boys.

In 1928 FFA became a National organization. A network of teachers guided the establishment of FFA as a team effort to establish a club for boys with similar farm interests.

In 1935 NFA was formed (New Farmers of America) for black students in the south.

In 1950 FFA became one of a few student organizations to recieve a Federal Charter from congress (Public Law 740)

In 1965 FFA and NFA merged.

In 1969 girls were allowed in FFA for the first time.

In 1988 a name change from the Future Farmers of America to National FFA organization to reflct the growing diversity in the agriculture industry.

In 2012 National convention competes 7 year run in Indianapolis and returns to Louisville, Kentucky in 2013 for 3 years.
