  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act

    This faced the problems of the increasing amount of wastes being dumped in America. It strove to protect human health and the environment from the harmful wastes such as chemicals. It also conserved energy and natural resources and ensured that wastes were taken care of in a way that preserved the health of the environment.
  • Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977 (SMCRA)

    This act regulates the environmental effects of coal mining in the United States. It also created the Office of Surface Mining. Surface mining damages the vegetation and water sources. By using large machinery, the coal is able to be dug out and transported quickly, but it horribly hurts the environment and leave the soil infertile.
  • The Clean Water Act

    This act aimed to eliminate releases of toxic substances into water from sources such as industrial facilities (manufacturing, oil, gas) and other water pollution.
  • Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act

    100 million acres of parks and wildlife refuges were designated by Congress. 15 National Parks were created or expanded.
  • Warning of Global Warming

    NASA warned Congress of the effects of global warming. The north and south pole is melting because congress didn't listen. That day is when they felt to neglect important info.
  • Exxon Valdez Oil Spill

    A boat dumped 11 million gallons of oil into ocean near Alaska. The ship ran aground on Bligh Reef near Alaska. One of the worst oil spills ever.
  • Oil Pollution Act

    The Oil Pollution Act streamlined the EPA’s ability to prevent and clean up catastrophic oil spills. It had affected the golf and the species living there.
  • State Government launches the Victorian Greenhouse Strategy

    The Victorian Greenhouse Strategy was a 3-year program of actions to reduce greenhouse emissions across a range of industries.
  • The State Government releases the 'Our Environment, Our Future - Sustainability Action Statement'

    This provided over $200 million to attempt to secure a sustainable environment for the state’s future
  • State Government commits to introducing a climate change bill

    This is the government supporting the evironment and its neccessaities through each of the climate changes
  • Stage 3a water restrictions implemented in Melbourne

    Stage 3a water restrictions are the harshest restrictions to be implemented in Melbourne.
  • Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency

    The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was asked to force that federal agency make carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases caused by industrial machines and large, smoke-puffing plants polutants.

    Live Earth concerts around the world featured Madonna, the Black Eyed Peas, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and the Beastie Boys, to raise awareness of climate change.

A campaign was launched to solve the climate crisis.
  • San Francisco Oil Spill

    58,000 gallons of oil were spilled by a container ship off the coast of San Francisco. Governor declared a state of emergency.
  • LD 2126

    Due to the increasing awareness of the disastrous effects of greenhouse gasses, the Board of Environmental Protection was told to develop greenhouse gas emission standards for coal facilities. This act also put the development of new coal-burning facilities on hold until concrete restrictions and standards are created.
