  • Sugar Act

    April 5, 1764. The Sugar Act reduced the rate of tax on molasses.
  • Stamp Act

    • The Stamp Act was passed on March 22, 1765. Every American had to follow this tax and it required that every piece of printed paper they used was taxed by the British Government.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Were passed on November 20, 1767. The British taxed imports of some glass, led, paints, paper, and tea.

    March 5,1770 five colonists were killed by British Soldiers.
  • Repeal of the Townshend Acts

    On April 12, 1770 the British Government attempted to put a tax on the imports to the 13 colonies.

    Some people call it “The Destruction of the Tea.” The Boston Tea Party was basically a protest done by the Sons of Liberty December 16, 1773.

    In 1774 the British government makes the coercive acts to upset the colonists. The coercive acts were made to punish the colonists for all of the tea they demped in the harbor during the boston tea party.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    They met on September 5, 1774. It was a meeting where 12 Delegates from each state.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    Groups of militia or minutemen were formed quickly to fight at Lexington and Concord. In April 1775 The British leader hear found out that Samuel Adams and John Hancock meeting in Lexington and that they had weapons in Concord. So he sent 700 British Soldiers to Lexington and Concord to arrest the two leaders of the sons of liberty and take all of their weapons.

    2nd Continental Congress
    May 10, 1775. They managed the colonial war effort and moved towards independence.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    June 17, 1775. The British had 1,200 troops at Bunker Hill and the colonists lost that battle. Even though the British won that battle they lost 226 soldiers and over 800 others were wounded.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    It was a letter written by the Continental Congress to King George that had all of the problems listed. In the Olive Branch Petition they told King George that they still had his loyalty and pleaded him to repeal the Intolerable Acts. The Olive Branch Petition was passed on July 8, 1775.
  • Signing of Declaration of Independence

    Signing of Declaration of Independence
    On July 4, 1776 it was signed. The Declaration of Independence was a statement saying that the 13 colonies were no longer a part of Great Britain. They now called themselves independent states.
