    The Battle of the Atlantic was one of the longest battles of World War II. It began immediately after the British declaration of war against Germany.

  • Opperation Dynamo (dunkirk)

    the evacuation of the beaches and harbour of Dunkirk, in the north of France, between 26 May and 4 June 1940.

    The battle was waged in the skies over the English Channel and England's eastern and southern coast in 1940 and 1941.

    Operation Barbarosa was the Nazi's codename for Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union.

  • Deippe Raid

    on august 19th the Allies launched a major raid on the French coastal port of Dieppe. Operation Jubilee was the first Canadian Army engagement designed to test the Allies' ability to launch amphibious assaults against Adolf Hitler's "Fortress Europe."

  • Bombing of germany

    The bombing of Hamburg, Germany took place in the last week of July 1943. The bombing operation was called Operation Gomorrah. Operation Gomorrah's attack destroyed Hamburg's U-boat pens, shipyards, and the oil refineries. One of the largest firestorms before the attack were raised by the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces.

    The largest oceanic invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of German-occupied northwest Europe from Nazi control and led to the Allied victory on the Western Front.

    The Battle of the Scheldt was a series of military operations by the Canadian First Army-consisting of Canadian, British and Polish formations, to open up the port of Antwerp so that it could be used to supply the Allies in north-west Europe.

    The long battle of the atlantic finally ended with Germany's surrender to the Allies in May 1945. During those six years, thousands of ships were sunk and tens of thousands of men were killed in the Atlantic Ocean.

  • The First Atomic Bomb

    The first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945 at Hiroshima. Three days later, the second atomic bomb was dropped on August 9, 1945 at Nagasaki.
